Food, glorious food! With a few friends in between, it could
only get better. It is even more exciting if you make food for friends with a
theme in mind; like a sushi evening.
The 2010 Soccer World Cup was also a great food experiment.
This menu was just the starting point of all things good. We
had a ball of a time and only then realized how much we as South Africans have in
common with other countries.
I grew up with food in abundance. Little did I know what
importance it would have later in my life? The smells and tastes of food is one
of the most important senses one could have and if it's nurtured from an early
age (as in my case) the world could be a wonderful place for each and every
one. In any tense moment the smell of lemon, lime, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon,
cardamom, pepper, or even melting sugar, will through me back in a state of
calmness and serenity. As a kid, our neighbour grew vegetables and fruit on his
plot. This was a great source for us, much to the irritation of the poor fellow
trying to keep up with our harvesting methods! It did teach me to taste food on
another level than other kids would ordinary be introduced, forcefully, to
vegetables and fruit.
Here I will try to make you feel and taste the importance
food can have in your life. Not only in your kitchen, but also in your family
life, love life, friendships and even in your not-so-feel-good-moments. If
anyone said to me they cannot cook, I ask them if they can read. If you can
read, you can cook. Everything else is an extension of you and no one is the
same, and THAT is the difference!
